Expanding the collection and analysis of genetic, molecular, and clinical data to better understand how cancer grows, evolves, and evades treatment.
Overview
At the Initiative for Molecular and Genomic Evaluation of Cancer (IMGEC), we are dedicated to unraveling the complexities of cancer's evolution and resistance to treatment.
We deliver high-quality, accessible data for research that drives breakthroughs in cancer treatment and transforms patient outcomes.
At IMGEC we’re leveraging vast patient data and cutting-edge technologies to build next-generation databases and deeper links between biobanked samples and treatment data.
The sequential genomics project is investigating the genomic evolution of metastatic breast cancer over time. By tracking circulating cancer cell DNA, we gain crucial insights into how cancer evolves and why treatment resistance emerges. This advanced monitoring and analysis allow us to decode the complexities of the evolution of cancer in the whole body.
Through this project, we are better understanding the processes behind breast cancer development. By analyzing genetic and epigenetic changes we’re able to track changes that drive the progression from normal tissue to preinvasive conditions and eventually invasive breast cancer (IBC). In addition, we are tracking the body’s immune response to these changes to meet the overriding need for more effective treatments.
As part of IMGEC’s future development, we are in the early stages of developing new studies across a variety of cancer types, often with limited patient populations. The center's data capabilities offer new opportunities for studying cancers including NUT carcinoma and lung cancer in never smokers.
